New ash pan
Summer 2005

The old mild steel ash pan had over the years corroded to the point of disintegration. This is partly due to the corrosive effect of the ash, the cycling of hot and cold it must endure, and the fact that the ash pan is designed to run with water in it. This water evaporates with the heat from the fire grate, cooling the fire bars, stopping them burning away. A new ash pan was drawn up and manufactured in stainless steel, by Sutherland Engineering, 2” deeper than the existing pan. The pan was made deeper to allow for whole day operation between emptying.
