The waggon as manufactured was fitted with front windows. The remnants of the fireman’s side window frame can be seen on the first photo in the “A Total Wreck” article. The window frames as manufactured by Sentinel were made of brass channel. It was decided not to follow this design, due to cost and difficulty of manufacture.
Iroko timber was sourced and made into frames by Stan Sutherland, a very practical volunteer at Summerlee, in the same style as the original brass frames. The glass was supplied by Spectra Glass. Brass vents are fitted near the middle, as originally designed, to aid ventilation around the chimney.
